How Do You Decide if You Need an RV Dehumidifier?

If you’re like most people, you probably enjoy spending time in your RV. However, if the humidity levels are too high, it can be uncomfortable and even dangerous. In this section, we will discuss what humidity levels you should aim for in your RV and how to use a hygrometer to check the humidity levels.

Q1. What should the humidity be in your RV?

The ideal humidity level for an RV is between 30% and 50%. This range is comfortable and prevents mold, mildew, and bacteria from growing. It’s also important to keep the humidity levels within this range if you have pets or plants in your RV.

Q2. Do I need a dehumidifier for my RV?

That depends on the humidity levels in your area and how much moisture your RV can handle. If the humidity levels are high, it’s a good idea to have a dehumidifier to remove excess moisture from the air. Conversely, if the humidity is low, you may need a humidifier to bump up the moisture level in your RV.

Q3. How to use a Hygrometer to check the RV humidity?

A hygrometer is the best way to measure the humidity levels in your RV. This tool measures the amount of moisture in the air and will help you keep your RV at a healthy humidity level. You can find a hygrometer at most hardware stores or online.

Using a hygrometer is easy. Just place it in your RV and it will show you the humidity level. Most of the thermometers for RV also come with a built-in hygrometer.

Govee H5075001 hygrometer

One of my favorite hygrometers on the market is the Govee H5075001. You can check it out by clicking here. This hygrometer has amazing some amazing features, such as,

  • The Govee H5075001 hygrometer can be monitored via its phone app.
  • It is highly accurate, ±3%RH.
  • This hygrometer also works as a thermometer and the accuracy for the temperature is ±0.54°F.
  • It is compact and hence perfect for RV and smaller motorhomes.
  • You can set your preferred temperature and humidity range. And if the temperature or humidity fluctuates, you will get a push notification.

Q4. Where in the RV should you place the hygrometer?

You should place the hygrometer in an area that is representative of the entire RV. For example, if you’re using a portable dehumidifier, you’ll want to measure the humidity level near where you’re placing the unit.

Q5. Where in the RV should you place the dehumidifier?

You should put the dehumidifier near the spot where you’re seeing the highest humidity. This could be near a wet bathroom, in a closet that’s storing damp clothes, or in an area where there is a lot of condensation.

RV Dehumidifiers 3 Real-World Examples

Are you not sure if a dehumidifier is actually worth your money or not? Well, the following 3 stories would like to differ.

Example 1: Humidity level in RV reduced within a few hours using the dehumidifier

Humidity level in RV

I got my RV when I was 24 years old because I wanted to travel. The first few months in the RV were both good and bad. I loved the freedom that I got from being an RV owner. Finally, I could go anywhere that I wanted without feeling homesick. However, when I used to go to different cities the humidity level would fluctuate and it would affect my breathing. It got to a point where living in my RV became a chore rather than a luxury.

Finally, I realized that this was happening becuase of the humidity and started looking for a solution. The most reasonable trick was to install an RV dehumidifier in my motorhome and pray for the best. Lo and behold, the humidity level in my RV reduced within a few hours. I have not stopped using the dehumidifier ever since. I just set my preferred humidity level and the dehumidifier works accordingly. No breathing problem, no lack of sleep.

Example 2: The Dehumidifier Protect Electronics Were Ruined in My RV

Unlike most RV owners these days, I’m living in my motorhome out of necessity. And by motorhome, I mean a small van that I converted as an RV and I park it outside my friends’ house (Thank you, Anna).

Now becuase this van is my full-time home, it has got a ton of important items, e.g my laptop, camera, small fridge, etc. As the humidity level in my city is usually high, I saw that condensation was happening in my RV. I got so scared that my electronics were going to be ruined I went on Reddit and tried to find a solution for my problem.

“RV dehumidifiers” was the first comment that I saw. And I went to the nearest target and got a small size non-electronic RV dehumidifier.

RV Electronics Were Ruined

Example 3: The Dehumidifier Solve to Humidity Question to Live in RV

At the start of 2020, I got myself a midsize RV and got out of my flat lease. The plan was to travel the states with my van. But we all know what happened in 2020. Long story short, I have to live in my RV full-time. At first, I did not see any problem in that, what can possibly go wrong. Right? (Hint: everything)

Cooking in RV

As I was cooking and showering in my RV every day, I noticed that the atmosphere inside my RV was getting more and more humid. I would open the doors to better the ventilation but I couldn’t possibly keep the doors open 24/7.

So, I finally went on youtube and found out that the solution to my problem was a device called an RV dehumidifier. I got it as soon as I could and I cannot be happier with the results.

I still shower and cook in my RV but now the humidity never exceeds my preferred limit.

Top 10 Best RV Dehumidifiers Review

Finally, it is time to introduce you to my top 10 RV dehumidifiers. The market is filled with dehumidifiers for RV but the following 10 products are worth your money. Among these best RV dehumidifiers, choose the one that suits your needs the most.

So, let’s get started. Shall we?

Best High Extraction Dehumidifier For RVInofia 30 Pint Dehumidifier

One problem that I usually face with smaller dehumidifiers is that they do not absorb as much moisture as I want them to. Usually, if a dehumidifier is small, it has a low extraction rate. And this becomes a huge hurdle if you are traveling to or staying in an area with extremely high humidity. This is where the Inofia RV dehumidifier comes into play.

Inofia 30 pint dehumidifier offers a high extraction rate for RV
Inofia 30 pint dehumidifier offers a high extraction rate for RV

Extraction Rate

Unlike other small RV dehumidifiers, the Inofia dehumidifier has a high extraction rate. It can remove around 30 pints of moisture from the air every single day. Now you must be thinking that with such a high extraction rate emptying the water tank would be a hassle. Right?

Wrong!

The Inofia dehumidifier features a continuous drain hose. Connect it with your RV drainage tank and forget about your dehumidifier. The device will work on its own.

Size

Even though this RV dehumidifier has such a high extraction rate it is still compact and small. The Inofia dehumidifier is 12.2 x 8.2 x 17.3 inches in size. With this size, it can easily fit in a Class-A and Class-B motorhome.

Noise Level

One issue that I usually face with dehumidifiers, in general, is the noise level. Sometimes the dehumidifier works amazingly but it makes so much noise that it is not suitable for RV. But that is not a problem with the Inofia dehumidifier. This dehumidifier is rated as 46dB and features quiet operation.

Operation Temperature

Furthermore, another amazing feature of the Inofia dehumidifier is its operating temperature. This dehumidifier is specially designed for working at low temperatures. It is capable of working at 41 °F. So, next time you drive RV to go to a humid yet cold place, bring the Inofia dehumidifier with you. Another reason why the Inofia dehumidifier is suitable for low temperatures is that this dehumidifier features an auto-defrost function. In other words, the dehumidifier will melt its coils when they get frozen.

Automatic Features

Moreover, the Inofia RV dehumidifier features an auto on/off feature. It allows you to set the time from 1 to 24 hours. Not only that, but when the RV’s humidity level is reduced to your preference, the dehumidifier turns itself off. And when the humidity increases the device also turns on. Due to this auto feature, you can save a lot of energy from your RV battery.

The reason why this dehumidifier is good for your RV is becuase it offers a high extraction rate and features automatic drainage. Not only that the dehumidifier turns on and off automatically to save energy. Lastly, it works quietly to better your experience.

Best Easy-to-Use RV Dehumidifier – LONONE Dehumidifier

When it comes to RV dehumidifiers the market is filled with products. It took me days to compile this list of best RV dehumidifiers. But what I noticed was that most of the dehumidifiers are difficult to operate. Or they just lack features that can make the product more convenient. And this is why I added the LONONE dehumidifier to this list.

Lonone easy-to-use dehumidifiers for RV
Lonone easy-to-use dehumidifiers for RV

Size

Just like the other RV dehumidifiers on this list, the LONONE dehumidifier is small and portable. In terms of exact dimensions, this dehumidifier is 14 x 9.5 x 9.5 inches in size. Personally speaking, this device might be too bulky for a small RV. But this dehumidifier will fit perfectly in a mid to large-size motorhome.

Extraction Rate

In terms of extraction, the LONONE dehumidifier can remove 850 ml of water from the RV every day. This extraction rate is lower than the first dehumidifier on our list. And because of that fact, I would not recommend the LONONE dehumidifier for extremely high humidity areas. However, one great thing about this dehumidifier is that it has a 2000 ml water tank. So, you would need to empty the tank only once every two to three days. Furthermore, it also features a continuous drainage option for more ease. Now that is convenient.

Noise Level

As the LONONE RV dehumidifier is rated 35dB, it is barely audible. The ultra-quiet operation ensures comfort.

Operation Temperature

The specific working temperature range of the LONONE dehumidifier is not specified. However, as this RV dehumidifier does not feature auto-defrost, avoid using it in cold temperatures.

Automatic Features

Now comes the features that make this RV dehumidifier one of the easiest devices to use. The LONONE dehumidifier features an LCD. This display helps you to set your humidity preferences with one touch. This dehumidifier also features auto on/off features. In other words, when the humidity level in the surrounding exceeds 5% of your preference the dehumidifier turns on. And when the water tank is filled, the dehumidifier automatically turns off and prevents overflowing in your RV.

Furthermore, the LONONE dehumidifier also comes with day and night mode. When the day mode is turned on the dehumidifier fan runs faster to reduce humidity quickly. And the night mode ensures the operation is as quiet as possible.

Well, as I said earlier, the LONONE dehumidifier is one of the easiest devices for RV to use on this list. With the ton of automatic functions and the user-friendly LCD, anyone can use this dehumidifier for your RV without any hassle.

Best Energy Saving RV Dehumidifier – Levoair Dehumidifier 68oz

If you have an RV then you would know how important it is to save the energy from your RV battery. Because sometimes you do not get enough sun to charge the solar-powered battery and that can be a disaster. In situations like these, the last thing that you need is an RV dehumidifier that drains all the juices from your battery. This is why I have found the perfect RV dehumidifier for those who want to save their RV batteries. The Levoair dehumidifier is an energy-saving RV dehumidifier. It uses only 1.1 kW of electricity per day.

Levoair dehumidifier is good at saving energy for RV

Size

Levoair dehumidifier is also small, compact, and hence perfect for a Class-B to Class-C RV. The specific size of the Levoair dehumidifier is 7.8 x 5.39 x 13.94 inches. Furthermore, the angular vertical design makes it easier to fit in the RV. The Levoair dehumidifier body also features a mobility handle. This ergonomic handle makes carrying the dehumidifier around easier.

Extraction Rate

In terms of extraction rate, the Levoair dehumidifier can absorb around 34 oz of water from the RV daily. Once again, this extraction rate suggests that the Levoair dehumidifier is better suitable for smaller RVs. Moreover, the Levoair dehumidifier has a 68 oz water tank. This means that even if the dehumidifier works at its highest capacity you would only need to empty it once every two days. On top of that, the Levoair dehumidifier features continuous drainage. So, if you do not want to spend your time emptying this RV dehumidifier, just connect it with your RV drainage, and you are done.

Noise Level

The noise rating of the Levoair dehumidifier is not mentioned on the site. But I was surprised by how quiet the dehumidifier is. Also, I checked the reviews for this specific RV dehumidifier and other customers also mentioned the quiet operation.

Automatic Features

Not only the Levoair dehumidifier is easy to use, but it also features some automatic settings that increase the convenience factor. For example, the dehumidifier turns off automatically when the water tank is full. By doing this, you are saved from overflowing and ruining your RV.

Operating Temperature

Lastly, the recommended working temperature for the Levoair dehumidifier is 59 °F. However, the dehumidifier can work as low as 41 °F or 5 °C. In other words, you can use it at a cold temperature. However, avoid using the Levoair dehumidifier in temperatures under 41 °F. Because this RV dehumidifier does not feature auto defrost and freezing can affect the quality of the dehumidification process.

As I said above, the Levoair dehumidifier is good at saving energy for RV. Due to its small body, it uses less energy. But that’s not the only reason why it is a good RV dehumidifier. This dehumidifier is also easy to use and comfortable to travel with. In conclusion, a definite recommendation for small size motorhome owners.

According to the manufacturers, the Letsport dehumidifier can work well between 59 to 86 °F. And it can work as low as 41 °F. But do not run it under the said temperature range or the operation would not be smooth.

Extraction Rate

Between the recommended working temperature range, the Letsport dehumidifier can extract anywhere from 24 to 34 oz of moisture from the air. This extraction rate makes this dehumidifier perfect for a smaller RV vehicle. One amazing thing about the Letsport dehumidifier is that it features a 68 oz water tank. Best RV Dehumidifier with Night Lights – REEMKIZZ 78 oz Dehumidifier

This next RV dehumidifier is my personal favorite for one main reason. The REEMKIZZ dehumidifier features built-in night light. Now, this feature wouldn’t be this impressive if it was a regular dehumidifier. However, for an RV, a device that comes with built-in night light is a great thing. You can create ambiance in your motorhome without needing to install anything else.

REEMKIZZ Dehumidifier for RV With Night Lights
REEMKIZZ Dehumidifier for RV With Night Lights

Size

Even with the amazing night lights, the REEMKIZZ dehumidifier is still a pretty compact RV dehumidifier. Its exact dimensions are 8.8 x 6 x 12.3 inches. With small size, comes the issue of a lower extraction rate. The REEMKIZZ dehumidifier has the lowest extraction rate on this best RV dehumidifier list. This RV dehumidifier can remove only 27 oz of water from the air per day. This is why I recommend the REEMKIZZ dehumidifier for smaller RVs and vans.

Noise Level

One of the best things about the REEMKIZZ dehumidifier is that it offers silent operation. This RV dehumidifier is rated at 35 dB. With a dehumidifier this quiet you would not even notice that it is on.

Operating Temperature

One major issue that I have with the REEMKIZZ dehumidifier is that it has a narrow working temperature range. This RV dehumidifier is suitable for working between 59 to 104 °F. And you should avoid running it under 47 °F. This is why I do not recommend using it in colder areas. However, the REEMKIZZ dehumidifier features an automatic defrost feature. So, even if the dehumidifier’s coil gets frozen, the device will melt it.

Automatic Features

Are you wondering about the automatic settings? The REEMKIZZ dehumidifier has got quite a few of those. As stated above, the REEMKIZZ dehumidifier features automatic defrost. Other than that, it also features auto shut off which is triggered when the dehumidifier water tank is full. You can also set this RV dehumidifier to turn off after a specific time duration, for example, 8H, 12H, 24H, or 48H. As I said earlier, this dehumidifier features built-in night light that makes your RV look more like an actual home. Secondly, this RV dehumidifier is easy to use. As the water tank is transparent, you know when you empty it. Lastly, this dehumidifier comes with multiple automatic features that increase the convenience factor.

Best Rechargeable RV Dehumidifier – Vellgoo Cordless Dehumidifier

Not all RVs are filled with electrical outlets. I know a ton of RV owners who designed their first RV themselves and forgot to put in enough electric outlets. And most of the RV dehumidifiers are electric which is not suitable for said individuals. Well, if you are one of these people then I have a piece of good news for you. The Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier might be a perfect choice for your motorhome.

Vellgoo Cordless Rechargeable Dehumidifier for RV

Size

To start with, the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier is petite and long. This unique design makes it perfect for an RV. You can fit it in the narrow spaces in your motorhome without any difficulty. Furthermore, the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier is also lightweight. The 2.35 lbs body is easy to transport from place to place.

Extraction Rate

One tricky thing about the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier is that the extraction rate of this dehumidifier is not specified. In other words, I do not know how much water this dehumidifier can extract from the air. However, what I know is that the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier is renewable for 300 cycles.

What I mean by that is that the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier contains moisture-absorbing beads. When these beads are dry they are orange in color. But once they absorb moisture they turn green. You can use the heat setting on the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier to dry the beads and reuse them. So, you can dry the beads 300 times before they stop working.

Due to this renewable nature of the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier, it is perfect for small RV or slightly high humidity are. Using it under the said circumstances will ensure that you get the most out of your purchase. Furthermore, the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier body has holes all around it. And due to this, the airflow is higher and the dehumidification process is faster than typical moisture absorber dehumidifiers.

Noise Level

Fortunately, as the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier is a moisture absorber dehumidifier it makes 0 noise. Even if you put your ear on the vents directly, you will not hear anything. Trust me, I have tried it.

Operating Temperature

Lastly, the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier can work under every temperature. But one downside is that it does not feature any automatic setting. For example, you cannot set it to turn on or turn off at a certain time in the day.

Let’s start with the obvious, the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier is a wireless or rechargeable dehumidifier. Due to the cordless design, this RV dehumidifier is suitable for motorhomes that lack a high number of electrical outlets.

Secondly, this dehumidifier is long and petite. This size makes it easier for you to fit it in RV tight places. Lastly, as the Vellgoo cordless dehumidifier makes no noise at all, you can enjoy the fresh air and quiet both at the same time.

Additionally, the dehumidifier’s compact and portable design makes it a great choice for RVs as it can be easily moved around the living space as needed. This is especially useful for larger RVs where moisture tends to accumulate in certain areas.

Best Moisture Absorber RV Dehumidifier – LUOWAN MINI Dehumidifier

If you are anything like me then you sure hate the constant chore of emptying the water tank of your dehumidifier. Well, I always knew that desiccant/moisture-absorbing dehumidifiers were an option. However, I was under the impression that this type of device is not good. That was until I came across the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier.

Size

Firstly, the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier is small in size. It is around 7.8 x 5.9 x 5.9 inches in size. Pretty small, right? Due to the small size, you can easily fit it in your RV no matter how big or small it is. Another feature that I loved about the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier is the small handle on top of its body. You can use this handle to hang the dehumidifier wherever you want. In other words, the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier does not require any floor space which is a huge plus if you are in a van. Furthermore, as this dehumidifier has 360° airflow, you can place it however you want and the dehumidification process would not be affected.

Extraction Rate

The exact extraction rate of the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier is not disclosed on the website. But then how would you know when the dehumidifier is full? Well, that is easier than you might expect. Just open up the dehumidifier and look at the beads inside. If the beads of the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier are green then it means that they have absorbed moisture. And if they are orange then it shows that they are currently dry. Once the beads are green you can turn on the drier function and then the dehumidifier will be ready to use again.

Noise Level

As the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier is a moisture absorber dehumidifier it does not make any noise at all. This dehumidifier is 100% quiet and this is why it is perfect for any RV. Also, because this dehumidifier lacks any mechanical parts, it is suitable for working at both high and low temperatures.

Automatic Features

Unfortunately, there is no way to set any timer on this dehumidifier. If the dehumidifier is in the RV then it will be absorbing the moisture automatically.

Why is LUOWAN MINI Dehumidifier good for your RV?

Firstly, as the name suggests, the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier is small in size and hence best for smaller-sized RV. Because of the compact design, you can easily fit it into your motorhome.

Secondly, the dehumidifier does not need to be charged for reducing the humidity. Although, to dry the dehumidifier you would need to charge it. However, as the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier can run 3-4 days on multiple charges then charging is also not an issue.

Lastly, the LUOWAN mini dehumidifier is one of the most economical dehumidifier options available in the market.

Best Affordable RV Dehumidifier – BARSKA Dehumidifier

If you are looking for a small and cheap moisture absorber dehumidifier then BARSKA dehumidifier is the best option for RV. Seriously, this dehumidifier is as small as it can get. The dimensions of the BARSKA dehumidifier are 5 x 3.5 x 1.25 inches.

But the small size of the BARSKA dehumidifier is not its only selling point.

Renewable

What I liked the most about this RV dehumidifier is that it is renewable. The BARSKA dehumidifier is not filled with basic silica packets that absorb moisture only once. You can put the BARSKA dehumidifier in the microwave after the job is done. And the microwave will evaporate the moisture and your mini moisture absorber dehumidifier is ready to work again.

Noise Level

Well, I do not need to explain the noise rate of the BARSKA RV dehumidifier, right? As you already know, unlike other RV dehumidifiers, this dehumidifier for RV contains Silicon Dioxide. The lack of an electronic mechanism ensures that the BARSKA dehumidifier does not make noise at all. I keep saying that 50 decibel or low is the ideal noise level for RV dehumidifiers, right. Well, this one makes no noise at all. Put it near your bed and you will not hear anything at all.

Extraction Rate

One thing that I did not like about this dehumidifier is that the extraction rate is not mentioned on the website. So, I cannot be sure how much moisture this dehumidifier can extract per day. However, if you are traveling to a slightly humid area then a BARSKA dehumidifier would work. Also, you can get more than one of these moisture absorber dehumidifiers to increase the dehumidification process.

But if you do not know the extraction rate then how would you know if the BARSKA dehumidifier is filled with moisture?

Well, I had the same question. Fortunately, the BARSKA dehumidifier turns pink when it is filled with moisture. And once it changes the color you can put it in the microwave for 4 minutes at 600W and let the microwave do its work.

Why is the BARSKA Dehumidifier good for your RV?

First of all, the BARSKA dehumidifier is small. It is as small as a dehumidifier can get. And becuase of this small size, the dehumidifier is easy to fit in RVs and even cars.

Secondly, because the BARSKA dehumidifier is a moisture absorber dehumidifier, it makes no sound at all. You can sleep with it next to your bed and you would not notice anything.

Lastly, this dehumidifier is an affordable option for RV owners. The retail price is $22.25 but if you hurry you might be able to get a discount.

How Many Do You Need Dehumidifiers for an RV

How many dehumidifiers do you need for your RV? This is a question that a lot of people ask, and the answer can vary depending on several factors. In this section, we will discuss the different factors that you need to consider when deciding how many dehumidifiers you need, as well as some of the best dehumidifiers for RVs on the market today!

RV Size

The first thing to keep in mind when looking for an dehumidifier is the size of your RV. If you have a small RV, you will likely only need one dehumidifier. However, if you have a large RV, you may need two or more dehumidifiers to properly regulate the humidity levels.

Here is a table to figure out how many dehumidifiers you need for your RV.

RV TypeRV SizeNumbers of RV Dehumidifiers
Class A33 feet2 to 3
Class B20 feet1 to 2
Class C28 feet1 to 2
5th Wheeler Trailer32 to 36 feet2 to 3
Travel Trailer20 to 30 feet1 to 2

Amount of Moisture in RV

Another thing to consider is how much moisture your RV produces. If you are living in an RV full-time, you will likely produce more moisture than someone who uses their RV occasionally. In this case, you will want to make sure that you have enough dehumidifiers to remove all of the excess moisture from the air.

Climate

Finally, the climate is another important factor to consider when choosing a dehumidifier for your RV. If you live in a humid climate, you will need a bigger unit. However, if the humidity level outside your RV is barely 60% then you can make a smaller dehumidifier work.

Why do You Need an RV Dehumidifier?

When you’re on the road, there are a lot of things to think about. One thing that you may not have considered is the humidity level in your RV. Many people don’t realize that high humidity levels can cause a lot of problems – from mildew and mold to corrosion and ruined furniture. That’s why it’s important to have an RV dehumidifier installed in your vehicle! In this section, we will discuss the benefits of using a dehumidifier in your RV and provide some tips on choosing the right one for your needs.

Mold & Mildew Prevention

High humidity is the main cause of mold and mildew. It can also cause wood to rot, metal to corrode, and electrical equipment to fail. A dehumidifier can help prevent all of these problems by removing excess moisture from the air. Not only will your RV be more comfortable to live in, but you’ll also extend the life of your belongings.

Reduces Breathing Problems

According to Doctors, high humidity causes trouble breathing. The American Lung Association confirms that humidity can cause asthma and allergy attacks because mold spores grow more easily in moist environments. A dehumidifier will help to keep the air in your RV clean and healthy.

Keeps Electronics Safe

It is common knowledge that high humidity ruins electronics. And as RVs are filled with electronics items, high humidity can be detrimental for your motorhome. By using a dehumidifier, you will protect your investment and keep everything running smoothly.

Saves RV’s Interior

Dehumidifiers also help to prevent moisture damage in the walls and ceilings of your RV. When these areas are exposed to high levels of humidity, they can become soft, which can lead to peeling paint or wallpaper.

Keeps Food Fresh

Last but not the least, high humidity spoils food. If you are traveling with food, a dehumidifier will help to keep it fresh and prevent bacteria growth.

In conclusion, if you want to protect your RV investment, keep the air clean and healthy, and preserve your food, then a dehumidifier is a must-have accessory. And luckily for us Rvers, there are a lot of options available in the market. So, no matter what your needs are, you will be able to find the perfect dehumidifier for your RV.

Just make sure that you read the reviews before purchasing one so that you can be sure that you are getting a quality product.

Key Factors to Consider When Buying RV Dehumidifiers

If you’re like most RVers, you want to make sure your machine is running in top condition at all times. That’s why it’s important to have a good dehumidifier for your RV. But what are the key factors of a good dehumidifier? And which one should you choose for your rig? In this section, we’ll discuss the best features of an RV dehumidifier and help you decide which one is right for you!

Dehumidifier Size

When buying a dehumidifier for your RV, the size of the dehumidifier should be the top priority. Because you want to make sure the dehumidifier will fit comfortably in your RV, it’s important to choose one that is the right size. Most small and mid-sized RVs can use a compact or portable dehumidifier, while larger rigs may need a full-size model.

Dehumidifier Capacity

The capacity of the is a feature that you should prioritize the most. The capacity of the dehumidify means how much water the dehumidifier can hold. The reason why this is important is that you don’t want the dehumidifier to constantly be filling up and having to stop in the middle of your trip to dump out the water. So, when looking at different models make sure to check how much water it can hold before choosing dehumidifier for RV.

Dehumidifier Auto Settings

Opt for an RV dehumidifier that features an auto shut-off feature. Becuase the dehumidifier will be in a closed-up RV, the machine must know when to turn it off. This way you’re not using extra energy and also prevent any water damage from happening.

Auto defrost feature is also an important factor to look for in a dehumidifier, especially you are traveling to cold places. The auto defrost feature will ensure that the dehumidifier coil is not frozen. Becuase if the coil ices over, it will not be able to function and remove moisture from the air.

Furthermore, some RV dehumidifiers also feature the auto-turn feature. This command is triggered when the humidity in the RV exceeds your preferred set limit.

Dehumidifier Noise Level

Another key factor to look for is noise level. You don’t want a dehumidifier that makes so much noise that you can’t sleep at night or one that disrupts your RVing experience.

To ensure that the dehumidifier that you are choosing is quiet, check the decibel rating of the product. Anything below 50 decibels is considered quiet and hence good for an RV.

Dehumidifier Energy Efficiency

When you are getting a dehumidifier for your RV make sure that it is energy efficient. Why? Becuase you don’t want to choose a model that consumes a lot of electricity and ends up costing you more money in the long run.

Look for a model with an Energy Star rating. Products that are Energy Star certified tend to be more energy-efficient than their counterparts.

Built-in Hygrometer

A built-in hygrometer in your RV dehumidifier is a must. The reason behind this is that a hygrometer will allow you to keep track of the humidity levels in your RV. This way you can monitor the humidity and decide when to turn on the humidifier and when to shut it off.

Dehumidifier Extraction Rate

Extraction rate means the amount of moisture an RV dehumidifier can remove in a day. For instance, if you travel to places with extremely high humidity consider getting a dehumidifier with a high extraction rate. On the other hand, if you mostly stay in drier climates, a lower extraction rate will work just fine.

Dehumidifier Operation Temperature

Some RV dehumidifiers are good for working at low temperatures. Meanwhile, some dehumidifiers are not meant to be used in cold weather and can cause damage if operated at low temperatures. Make sure you check the operating temperature before purchasing a dehumidifier.

If you usually travel to cold places then a dehumidifier that works at low temperatures would be ideal for your RV. Similarly, if you travel to places with humid and hot climates, then opt for a dehumidifier with a high operating temperature.

Why not Recommend Moisture Absorber Dehumidifiers for RV

This might be confusing if you have been reading this entire article. At the beginning of this article, I recommended a few moisture absorber dehumidifiers. And now I’m saying that I do not recommend them?

Well, I do not recommend all of them but only a few. And here’s why.

#1 Moisture Saturation

If you get your hands on a medium to low-quality reuseable moisture absorber dehumidifier you will notice that after time it gets saturated with moisture. While I was researching this article, I tested a huge number of moisture absorber dehumidifiers. And most of them got saturated with moisture to a point where they could not be reused.

#2 Slow Operation

After using an electric and cordless RV dehumidifier, I cannot go back to the slow operating moisture absorber dehumidifiers. In comparison to the conventional RV dehumidifiers, the moisture absorber dehumidifiers work very slow. You can leave a moisture absorber dehumidifier in your RV for a few days and it will only remove a couple of ounces of moisture. On the other hand, a conventional dehumidifier for an RV removes more moisture faster.

When to use moisture absorber dehumidifiers?

Now that I mentioned the 2 biggest reasons why you should not use a moisture absorber dehumidifier, it is time to tell you why and when you should.

  1. Moisture absorber dehumidifiers are perfect for small and confined spaces. For example, kitchen, safes, closets, makeup containers, etc.
  2. You should use them when the climate is mildly humid. For example, if the humidity level is at 55% or 60%.

Other Ways to Reduce Humidity for Your RV

Living in an RV can be a great experience, but dealing with humidity can be a real challenge. If you’re looking for ways to reduce the humidity in your RV, you’ve come to the right place. In this blog post, we will discuss 6 effective strategies that will help you keep the humidity under control. Let’s get started!

#1 Way: Detect and Eradicate Source of Humidity

The first tip to reduce humidity in your RV is by detecting and eliminating the source of humidity. A common source of humidity is moisture accumulation. This can be caused by cooking. For example, not closing the door of the bathroom after showering. Or the high humidity could also be a result of the weather outside. In either case, it is important to find and fix the source of humidity as soon as possible.

#2 Way: Open Up the Windows

If the culprit of high humidity is inside your RV then it is better to open up the windows. By opening the windows you can better the air ventilation and reduce the humidity.

#3 Way: Turn on the Fan

Many RVs have ventilation fans. And another way to improve ventilation and reduce humidity is by turning on that fan. If the humidity in your RV is high, just turn on the fan for a few minutes. This way you can improve the air circulation and reduce humidity.

#4 Way: Monitor Weather Conditions

This might not be a way to reduce the humidity level in your RV but it might work for some. When you are traveling in your RV, keep an eye on weather conditions. Just check the humidity level of the area before you visit. And if the humidity is too high then you can skip going there altogether.

#5 Way: Cook Outside

As we said earlier, one of the main causes of high humidity in an RV is cooking. So, to reduce the humidity in your RV, cook outside as much as possible. By doing this you can keep the humidity level down without needing a dehumidifier.

#6 Way: Hang Damp Clothes Outside

Another big reason for the high humidity in an RV is damp clothes. Many people hang their damp clothes inside their RV and this can increase the humidity level. So, next time hang your damp clothes outside. Or you can also use a clothesline.
