As all 5 of the dehumidifiers in question are manufactured by the same brand (Pelonis) they are deemed to have similarities. The following are the 8 common features that the Pelonis dehumidifiers have.
Adjustable Humidistat
All of the Pelonis dehumidifiers feature an adjustable humidistat. What this tool does is that it detect the humidity in the air. With the collected information, the humidistat automatically changes the setting of the dehumidifier to maintain your preferred humidity.
Low-Temperature Operation
A good number of dehumidifiers do not work well at low temperatures. When these dehumidifiers are turned on during winter, the dehumidifier coil gets frozen. This phenomenon decreases the efficiency of the dehumidifier.
On the other hand, the Pelonis dehumidifiers are designed specifically to work well at low temperatures. This is why all of the Pelonis dehumidifier models are suitable for both summer and winter.
24-Hour Timer
Another amazing feature that all of the Pelonis dehumidifiers possess is the 24-hour timer. In other words, you can use this timer to automatically turn on or turn off the dehumidifier within the 24-hour range. This feature alone saves a ton of energy and minimizes the monthly energy bill.
Bucket Full Indicator
The water tanks of the Pelonis dehumidifiers feature a bucker full indicator. As the name suggests, this feature indicates when the bucket is full. Hence, it helps you to know the state of the bucket without needing to take it out every time.
Auto Defrost
As we stated previously, the Pelonis dehumidifiers are suitable for working at a low temperature. The reason behind that benefit is the Pelonis dehumidifiers with an auto-defrost feature.
In simple words, whenever the dehumidifier coils get frozen due to low temperature, the dehumidifier automatically warms up them. Hence, this feature maintains the dehumidifier efficiency in winter.
Drain Hose for 24hr Continuous Drainage
The Pelonis dehumidifiers water tank does feature a full water indicator. However, what if you are not available when the water tank gets full? To prevent overflow mishaps and increase the convenience factor in general, the Pelonis dehumidifiers come with a 24-hour continuous drainage system.
In simple terms, just connect the water tank drainage hose with your house’s drainage system and the water tank will empty itself.
Energy-Star Certified
If you are reading this article from the start, you already know that due to the 24-hour timer, the Pelonis dehumidifiers are quite energy-saving. That point is further proven by the fact that all of the Pelonis dehumidifiers are energy-star certified. This certification indicates that these devices use less energy than other dehumidifiers and hence save money on the monthly energy bill.
1-Year Limited Warranty
The last common feature among all of the models of Pelonis dehumidifiers is the 1-year limited warranty. No matter which model you buy it comes with the same warranty. If you detect any fault in your purchase or if the product stops working within a year, you can always connect the customer support.
Pelonis 50-60 Pint VS. 20-40 Pint Dehumidifier
Now that we have discussed the common feature among the 5 Pelonis dehumidifier models. So, in this next section of the review, let’s look into the dissimilarities. Following are the 2 aspects that are different in 20, 30, 40 pints vs 50 and 60-pint Pelonis dehumidifiers.
Product Design
The overall design of all of the Pelonis dehumidifiers is similar. They are of a similar size and they also weigh almost equal. However, the 20-40 pint dehumidifiers are mainly white in color with grey accents. On the other hand, the 50-pint dehumidifier is black with grey sides. And the 60-pint dehumidifier is completely grey.
It should also be noted that, unlike the 20-50 pint dehumidifier, the 60-pint Pelonis dehumidifier has an air vent on top of it. Meanwhile, the 20-50 pint dehumidifier vent is on the side.
The air vent on top gives the user the freedom to put the dehumidifier next to a wall without worrying about interrupting airflow.
Built-in Pump
The second and last difference between the 20-40 pint and 50-60 pint Pelonis dehumidifier is the built-in pump feature. 50-60 pint dehumidifiers have it while the 20-40 pint dehumidifiers don’t.
The main benefit of a built-in pump is that you can place the dehumidifier on a lower level than the drain and it will still work just fine. However, if you place the 20-40 pint dehumidifier in the same location it will not be able to drain automatically.

5 Reasons Pelonis Dehumidifiers Are Worth Buying
Design
The design of the Pelonis dehumidifiers is one of the main reasons why I personally adore these products. Let’s break it down:
- 4 Wheels Design: All of the Pelonis dehumidifiers have a 4 wheels design. The 4 wheels at the bottom of the dehumidifier have made it a lot easier to move it around. Let’s be honest, even if you get the dehumidifier just for your living room you might want to use it in your bedroom or vice versa.
- Easy to Use Control Panel: Unlike most of the other dehumidifiers on the market, the Pelonis dehumidifiers have easy-to-use control panels. The simple interface makes it easier to operate for non-tech savvy people. No matter your age or generation, you can run a Pelonis dehumidifier.
- Easy System for Filter Replacement: The Pelonis dehumidifiers feature washable filters. However, if after hundreds of use you want to replace the filter then it is also easy.
Low-Temperature Operation
As the Pelonis dehumidifiers are made specifically for working at lower temperatures and feature auto-defrost features, these dehumidifiers are perfect for winters.
Unlike other dehumidifiers, the Pelonis dehumidifiers coils get warmed up automatically. So, no matter the weather you can always rely on the Pelonis dehumidifiers. This also means that you would not need to buy a separate dehumidifier for winter and save money.
Smart Settings
The Pelonis dehumidifiers smart settings are what caught my eyes first. Because the smart features are what make a dehumidifier convenient and worth your money. The Pelonis dehumidifiers for example have the following smart features:
- Adjustable Humidistat that detects the humidity and changes the dehumidifier set according.
- 24-Hour Timer that saves you from constantly monitoring the dehumidifier. Just set the timer and it will turn on/off the dehumidifier accordingly.
- Bucket Full Indicator shows you when to empty the bucket and hence prevents overflow.
- Auto Defrost melts the ice from the dehumidifier compressor coil and hence leads to a better dehumidification process even in winter.
Drain Hose for 24hr Continuous Drainage
I don’t know about you, but I do not have time to constantly unload the water bucket. However, if you are living in an extremely humid area then emptying the water bucket 3-5 times is required. Now consider your dehumidifier is in the garage or crawl space, the task just got more difficult.
This is why I love the Pelonis dehumidifiers. All of their dehumidifier models feature 24 continuous drainages. Connect it with your main drainage system and voila!!! Now the dehumidifier will drain itself manually and you can cut off the task from your to-do list.
Energy Star Certified
All of the dehumidifiers from Pelonis are energy star certified. This certification indicates that the device is energy efficient (use less energy) and hence cost-efficient as well. You can read more about the Energy Star Certification here.
Pelonis Dehumidifier Filter Replacement Guide
One of the best features of the Pelonis dehumidifiers is that the filter is easy to replace. And here is how you can do it yourself.
- Turn back the dehumidifier so that its back is facing you.
- Open the filter door.
- Take out the filter carefully and replace it with a similar size one.
So, Is The Pelonis Dehumidifier Worth The Hype?
100% yes. It is worth your money for many reasons. For instance, the Pelonis dehumidifiers feature 24hr drainage and hence they are convenient. These dehumidifiers also have a number of smart features. And most importantly the extraction rate range is wide so that you can choose a dehumidifier that matches your needs easily.
I tried to add as much information about the Pelonis dehumidifiers as I could. And even though all of these dehumidifiers work amazing, get the one that is perfect for your room size.
Bought a 50 pint with all the features 1 year ago. Is continuously freezing up.Why would this happen with auto defrost?Did all the trouble shooting points .Very irritating!
Pelonis is a very good dehumidifier brand. I think the situation you mentioned must be an isolated example. I still like this brand, whether it is its design or performance.
Annie’s problem is not an isolated incident! I have owned 3 of the 50 pt. Pelonis is dehumidifiers in the last 2 years and they are all junk. The most recent one was a replacement under warranty and lasted a total of 6 months. Now that original warranty has expired 1 month ago so now I’m without a dehumidifier once again. She is correct that they either freeze up or the compressor stops working completely. In my experience they work perfectly until they go bad. Do not buy a Pelonis dehumidifier unless you like replacing it every 6 months to 1 year.
